Massage therapy with a customized approach

There are many different formats to a massage therapy session, depending upon a client’s needs and physical condition. For example, special techniques are used on athletes that would not be used on a sedentary person, pregnant woman, the elderly or those with a compromised immune system; and certain approaches for clients with injuries that would not be used on clients just seeking relaxation and stress relief.

Restoration and release

Over the years, I have found that certain patterns of overuse affect not only the muscles, but also the fascia, tendons, ligaments and nerves; all of which respond to soft tissue work. My goal is to restore optimal texture, motion and function of soft tissue and release any restrictions and the common problems related to these, such as headaches, sciatica, all back pain, neck/ shoulder pain, leg and foot pain.

Treatment with precision pressure and movement

Due to overstressed muscles, any of these conditions may occur and create the accumulation of small tears that block blood flow and oxygen, resulting in scar tissue that further binds and causes muscles to shorten and weaken and reduce range of motion of the surrounding joints. I have found much success treating abnormal tissue with precisely directed pressure and specific client movements.

Addressing the whole body

Many times clients come in asking me to address pain in a localized area, giving me a health history as a roadmap. That is always an excellent start and worthwhile direction to begin. The body has an innate ability and desire to heal and be in balance. Then, during the course of the bodywork, invariably, these lines of fascial restriction lead me to other sources of dysfunction, giving the client a more “whole body” stasis, even enhancing wellness on a body, mind and spirit level.

That is how I came to name my business Body Language. With proper training and experience, a bodyworker can read the language and open the doorway to optimal balance and wellness.
